Aleksey Kulagin

In 1982, Aleksey Kulagin graduated from Minsk Red Banner of Labor State Medical Institute in general medicine. From 1982 to 1983 – internship in anesthesiology and intensive care at Minsk Clinical Hospital № 9.

From 1983 to 1989, Aleksey Kulagin worked as an anesthesiologist-intensivist at Minsk Clinical Hospital № 9, and then he worked at Children’s Surgical Center of Minsk Clinical Hospital № 1. In 1989, Aleksey Kulagin started a full-time postgraduate course at the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Moscow Central Institute for Advanced Medical Training. In 1992, he finished the postgraduate course and successfully defended Candidate’s thesis entitled «Meeting of energy need of children in extreme conditions».

In January, 1993, he started to work as an assistant at the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. In 2000, he got the academic title of an associate professor. In 2001, Aleksey Kulagin got the highest category in anesthesiology and intensive care.

In 2008, Aleksey Kulagin continued his career as an associate professor at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of Belarusian State Medical University. From January, 2013, to October, 2016, Aleksey Kulagin worked as a vice-rector for clinical work at Belarusian State Medical University. Since December, 2016, he has been working as head of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.

Aleksey Kulagin is an author and coauthor of 140 scientific publications, including 3 practical manuals for physicians, 4 guides for practitioners, «Some lectures on pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care» and 49 educational guides. He is a coauthor of a rationalization proposal.

Aleksey Kulagin paid a lot of attention to the joint scientific and research work with students. Annually, his students give reports at scientific and practical conferences.

He is actively involved into clinical work. Annually, he consults about 2000 children. He actively participates at consiliums on the issues of anesthesia and intensive care at different healthcare establishments of the Republic of Belarus.

Aleksey Kulagin is an active member of the Belarusian Society of Anesthesiologists and Intensivists; he implements new technologies into the clinical practice of anesthesiology and intensive care units in different regions of the Republic of Belarus.

With his assistance, the methods of the low-flow and regional anesthesia in children have been implemented into clinical practice. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal «Medical knowledge».

The main areas of his scientific interests are the following ones: improvement of the quality of anaesthetic support in children. Intensive therapy of the purulent-septic conditions.
