Nikolay Filipovich

Nikolay Filipovich was born in the town of Svisloch, Grodno region. In 1969, he was admitted to Grodno Medical University, Faculty of General Medicine, which he graduated from in 1965.

From 1965 to 1972, he worked as a neuropathologist in Svisloch region; from 1972 to 1980, he was a clinical resident at Minsk Regional Clinical Hospital. In 1980, he started to work as a senior researcher at Belarusian Scientific and Research Institute for Neurology, Neurosurgery and Physiotherapy; since 1992, he had been working as head of the Department of Neuropathology of Belarusian State Institute for Advanced Medical Training. At present, he works as professor at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery of BelMAPE.

In 1977, Nikolay Filipovich defended Candidate’s thesis. In 1982, he defended Doctoral thesis. Nikolay Filipovich is an author of 296 research publications; he got 8 author’s certificates for invention and 46 certificates for rational proposals.

Nikolay Filipovich is an author of 5 monographs, 5 manuals, 4 teaching materials for physicians, 6 methodological recommendations on the most actual issues of neuropathology.

His scientific researches are mainly devoted to the following: studying of demyelinating diseases of the nervous system, acute and chronic viral neuroinfections, the role of venous-lymphatic and systemic disorders in the pathogenesis of neurological manifestations of osteochondrosis of the spine; vascular diseases of the nervous system, as well as muscular and tonic syndromes of cervical and lumbar osteochondrosis.

Nikolay Filipovich has developed new technical means, many of which have been developed by himself (injector for angiographic examinations, rectal electrode for rheocaudospondylography; needle electrodes for intramuscular rheography), methods of spectral phonomomyography of trunk muscles and limb muscles; he offered the method of contrasting of lumbar arteries at angiographic investigations. The results of the researches were recognized by the scientific and medical community, were reported at the 7th and 8th All-Union Congresses of Neurologists and Psychiatrists, International Congresses of Neurology (Sofia, 1988; Innsbruck, 1989; Berlin, 1990; Eilat, 1997; Istanbul, 2005; Grenada, 2012).

In 1997, Nikolay Filipovich was elected an academician of the Belarusian Engineering Academy (Medical and Technical Unit); in 1998, he was elected a corresponding member of the International Academy of Gerontology.
