Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, head of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology of BelMAPE, psychiatrist with the highest qualification category

Roman Evsegneev graduated from Minsk Medical Institute, Faculty of General Medicine, in 1974. He worked as a psychiatrist at Brest Regional Psychiatry Hospital «Krivoshin» from 1974 to 1979. From 1979 to 1980, he worked as head of a division at the Republican Clinical Psychiatry Hospital in Minsk. From 1980 to 1995, Roman Evsegneev worked as an assistant, associate professor and professor at the Department of Psychiatry of Minsk Medical Institute. Since 1995, Roman Evsegneev has been working as head of the Department of Psychiatry and Narcology of BelMAPE. In 1980, he defended his Candidate’s thesis, in 1991 – his Doctoral thesis. He got his academic title of a professor in 1996.

Roman Evsegneev is an author and coauthor of 1 invention on the treatment of psychiatric disorders, more than 100 articles (20 of them are in English). He is an author of the books «Practical Guide on Psychiatry for Students» (in coauthorship,1988), «Psychiatry for General Practitioners» (2001), «Psychiatry for All» (2006), «Psychiatry in General Medical Practice» (2010). 

Roman Evsegneev is a coordinator of a number of international projects in the field of practical psychiatry and narcology: «Alcohol and Trauma» (World Health Organization), «Psychiatry of Late Adulthood» (Great Britain, Belarus), «New Approach to the Training of Physicians in the Field of Addictions» (Belarus, the Netherlands, World Health Organization), «Lexicons of Psychiatric Terms of the World Health Organization» (Russian Federation, the Ukraine, Belarus).

Roman Evsegneev initiated and developed the Law of the Republic of Belarus «Psychiatric Care and Guarantees of Citizen’s rights for patients» (in force since 1999).

Roman Evsegneev was head of a research group on the creation of “Protocols on diagnostics and treatment of psychiatric and behavioral disorders in the system of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus” (2005), first appeared in the Republic of Belarus.

His main scientific interests are the following ones: treatment of psychosis, depression, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, diagnostics and treatment of psychological disorders in general medical practice, legislative regulation of psychiatric care.

In 1993-2009 – chairman of the Belarusian Psychiatric Association Board. From 1999 to 2006 – a member of the European Psychiatric Association Board.

Roman Evsegneev is a chief editor of the journal «Psychiatry, psychotherapy and clinical psychology» (Belarus, CIS countries), a member of the Editorial Board for the journals «Overview of the modern psychiatry» (CIS countries) and «Medical Panorama».

Roman Evsegneev is an honorary professor of the International University of Vienna, Austria.

He is a consultant psychiatrist of the International Association of Medical Assistance to Travellers (IAMAT), Canada.
