Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Infections, associate professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences
In 2007, Yuri Gorbich graduated from Belarusian State Medical University, Faculty of General Medicine, with distinction. He did an internship in therapy at Brest Regional Hospital. Afterwards, he worked as a general practitioner at Brest Central Outpatient Clinic and as an infectious disease physician at the Infection Unit of Brest Regional Hospital.
In 2009, Yuri Gorbich entered a PhD programme at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Belarusian State Medical Institute. In 2012 he defended his Candidate’s thesis entitled «Infections, induced by Acinetobacter baumannii, and their rational antibacterial therapy».
After finishing his PhD course, Yuri Gorbich worked as an assistant, since October, 2013 – as an associate professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Belarusian State Medical University. In January, 2015, Yuri Gorbich was awarded the academic title of an associate professor in clinical medicine.
From 2014 to 2017 Yuri Gorbich worked as dean of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine, from January to March, 2018 – as dean of the Medical Faculty for International Students of Belarusian State Medical University. Since 2014, he had been working as a Deputy Executive Secretary, from 2016 to 2018 – as an executive secretary of the Аdmission committee of Belarusian State Medical University.
Since November, 2019, Yuri Gorbich has been working as a head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Infections of Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
He conducts medical advisory work at Minsk City Emergency Hospital and in emergency cases – at other clinics in Minsk and in other cities.
Yuri Gorbich has the higher physician’s qualification. His scientific interests are mainly connected with the following issues: rational antibacterial therapy of nosocomial infections, including fungal infections; modern aspects of diagnostics and new approaches to the prescription of antimicrobial drugs at sepsis; infection control.
Yuri Gorbich was awarded a Diploma of Honor from the Health Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee (2013), a Diploma of Honor from Belarusian State Medical University (2015), a Diploma of Honor from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus (2016). Yuri Gorbich is a fellow of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus (2013). He is a holder of the ISC Young Investigator Award (2013).
Yuri Gorbich is a member of the Interregional Association for Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IACMAC), European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), International Society of Chemotherapy Infection and Cancer (ISC).
